I think the other, non-professional readers show more justice to this particular romance novel than the editorial reviewer does, definitely. Whew. While reading WINGS OF A DOVE, I did sometimes catch myself wishing that the heroine, Allie was more assertive at certain times, and that the hero, Delaney was less bitter about what life had dealt him. (Both these attributes will bring trouble into their love story.) But I never wanted to stop reading. This story took me in from the first page. Contrary to what the editorial reviewer states, this is not a particularly manipulative or excessively sentimental story. There were twists in the plot that felt like real life. Circumstances intervene in Delaney and Allie's lives which separate them, but they maintain a strong emotional bond, and though that bond gets stretched very thin at times, it never breaks.
The cover art depicted here is all wrong for this book - this story isn't the rollicking lust-fest the cover art may imply. Maybe the editorial reviewer was expecting something like that, but WINGS OF A DOVE was a much gentler, and sadder, romance novel.

The story made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me happy, it made me angry. Quite brilliant writing. I recommend you read it.
This is the first book I have read of Elaine Barbieri and I thought it was very well written. I enjoyed that it covered a long space of time. It made you feel like you was a part of the story. I plan to read more of her books.
I admit I'm a young reader, and don't have the experience with the ride variety out there. But this book trap me inside it's story from the first paragraph to the last word!! I tuned out everything and every one and just read and read and read and read!! I must say that the moral of this book sure brought new hope and light into view as far as my own life's goals go. I hope you enjoy it just as well.
The first time I read this novel was in 1996. I was in the sixth grade and I absolutely, irrevocably fell in love with this book. Delaney and Ally completely enthralled me in their story. Elaine beautifully conveys the emotion and events that transpire between the two. To this day this novel remains my favorite of all. It had me crying, it made me laugh, it made me angry and jubilant. I can never say that another book has ever grasped my mind and body as much as this one has. I've read it numerous times and it never gets old. I love this book and it is a great buy!
